The Market for Biologic Drugs
Are biosimilars priced similarly to generics? According to Ana Nicholls, healthcare analyst at The Economist Intelligence Unit, the answer is no:
“Given the lower levels of competition in the biosimilars market, the copies tend to be priced at just 20-30% below the original drugs, compared with around 90% below for traditional generics.” (Jason Shafrin)
So people are more likely to choose biosimilars?
It looks like a small percentage are, maybe the equivalent of those who eat organics
The small percentage who consume keep the price higher, over time it could fall, but for now it won’t change much.
It would be nice if it did
It appears that there are those willing to buy biosimilar drugs, but the costs need to go down in order to create a larger demand
More would have to enter the market
Exactly.
I will probably just stick to generics
Probably for the best. Despite what people say, they work just as well
People who say they don’t are paranoid. It’s the same exact active ingredients
There’s a group wanting it, but more producers have to enter the market before they become a legit competitor with generics
How cost intensive is it for biosimilars?
Would be nice to find out
I feel as if reconstituted DNA in pill form is not the safest way to administer medicine
Now I’m scared.
Thanks for sharing this awesome market biologic drugs information.
