Love is a Natural Painkiller, and Other Links

Being in love relieves pain. The dopamine system may interact to release natural opioids, processing something similar to a “runner’s high,” but without the exercise.

Is stress contagious? To some degree.

Vanity is a global phenomenon: Chinese are just as vain about their appearance as Westerners.

    If you don’t believe that stress is contagious, go on a long road trip with a person that is a little too tightly wound. It’s impossible not to pick up some of that anxiety.

    It’s interesting how being in love relieves pain. I had a post awhile back that explained emotional pain (e.g. being rejected) shares common pathways with physical pain and Tylenol will relieve both types of pain.

    Stress is contagious; and being around easily stressed people causes a pain that even being in love does not relieve.
