Last Insurer to Offer “Child-Only” Plan Drops It, and Other Links

The last insurance company writing “child-only” health policies in Minnesota has pulled out of the market.

Tennessee Governor: My state could drop coverage for its state employees, pay the $2,000 per employee tax penalty/tax to the federal government, give their workers cash raises to compensate for the loss in health benefits, and still come out at least $146 million per year ahead.

There’s an alcohol gene. About 10% to 20% of people have it.

California’s marijuana crop is worth $14 billion. The California wine industry comes in at $2 billion.

    Legalizing marijuana and taxing it may be the only answer to California’s impossible budget situation.

    Who would have guessed that marijuana was worth seven times what the California wine industry brings is worth. I expect to see Napa Valley growing (medical) marijuana instead of grapes within a few years. Come to think of it, wine is just another medicinal concoction.

    If there is an alcohol gene then people could get tested when they are young and know before they ever take a single drink whether they are potential alcoholics.

    About the last insurer to drop child policies: Look for Medicare to add children soon.

    Insurance companies are generally republican in nature, so no I am not surprised by the race to the bottom. That’s what republicans do best. No social conscious, just me and my money.
