Can US Hospitals Compete Internationally? Maybe.

Yours truly in an interview with Medical Travel Today:

Right now there are about 50 major U.S. hospitals actively marketing in Latin America to recruit patients. They’re already competing in an international marketplace and many are doing it with a package price structure.  They are doing the things they need to do to compete effectively on quality and price in a global market.

    This is really interesting.

So US hospitals can be transparent — so long as there is money in it for them.

I understand they are also giving package price quotes to Canadians.

BTW, your perspective on the international market for care is distinctly different than that of most other people.

  5. Devon Herrick says:

I believe the next step in medical tourism is in-country medical travel. We all cannot go to India for care, but we can go to selected hospitals across the country. Once the threat of steering patients to a competing hospital becomes a reality, more domestic hospitals will begin to compete for patient based on price.
