Newt University and the Republican National Convention

I’m in Tampa this morning for the start of the Republican National Convention. I’ll be appearing along with Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI), CNBC host Larry Kudlow and former Speaker of the House and presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich, at Newt University. It’s a series of policy seminars for delegates, candidates and other party officials. My session will focus on saving Medicare, and I’ll be covering many of the points in my recent book, Priceless.

You can watch the convention live from anywhere via the RNC’s Facebook application called “Convention Without Walls.” It’s as simple as installing the Facebook app and getting immediate access to exclusive content.

    …University… “Convention Without Walls.”

That raises the question: in the Information Age, Internet connections with video chat, streaming video and virtual meetings, why does each political party’s delegates need to converge on a city to cast their ballots for the nominee of their choice? It’s a social institution — which is a necessary ingredient to motivate the faithful. You could make the same argument about attendance at weekly church services.
