Why I Need More Salt

About 10,000 taste buds line an adult’s tongue, throat and mouth, perceiving sweet, salty, sour and bitter. As the years pass, we lose some of them, and the taste buds that remain grow less sensitive. Salty and sweet tastes are usually the first to go.

    If that’s true, then why is the food at Cracker Barrel so bland? (And also Luby’s for that matter.)

    And, I’ve actually eaten at the a Classic Residence by Hyatt. The food was good, but I wasn’t blown away by the spices. It seems to me that most older people tend to get indigestion easily, so the incentive is to make food bland rather than spicy.
