Who Says We Need Nurses?

Robots are more reliable. They don’t take offense when patients are rude. They don’t ask for time off or overtime pay. Besides, there aren’t enough trained, human caregivers to take care of aging baby boomers anyway. Affordability may be a problem, however. Here is Bob Moos, writing in the Dallas Morning News.

Like smart pets that never require feeding, robots will scoot from room to room to wake the homeowners in the morning, remind them to eat and send for help if someone falls.

Sensors embedded throughout the seniors’ homes will detect when the residents have sleepless nights or forget to take their medication. Web-based computer software will notify caregivers.

  1. Tom says:

There are other benefits of robots.

They don’t get in bad moods because they had a fight with their husbands the night before. They don’t treat patients like children. They don’t go on strike.

    The list is almost endless.

I’m with Tom. If the robots are cheap enough, I’ll take two or three.

  3. Nancy says:

    Tom and Jeff:

Obviously, neither of you has ever been a nurse. Let’s hope you never need one.
