What We Can Learn from Air Traffic Control

The FAA has been trying to modernize the Air Traffic Control system by buying new computers for decades. The extent of its failure to do so has been summarized in a Wall Street Journal article. On May 7th the Journal reported that hackers had penetrated FAA computers so badly that the agency had to partially shut down air-traffic control in Alaska.

Meanwhile, Canada has privatized its air traffic control system by creating a private non-share capital corporation, Nav Canada, to own and run it. Costs are down, performance is up, and the system has no problem modernizing itself.

In other news, the Obama Administration promises that your medical records will be safe and secure in the modern, federally mandated, electronic health information system of the future, and that removing medical care from private control will save money while improving care.

    Interesting comparison.

Is it just me? I could swear I saw the heads of PhRMA, the AMA, the Chamber of Commerce and AHIP dancing around on the stage in that video.

Rick, I think I saw Howard Dean jamming out in the audience. Also, there was a woman that looked a bit like Hillary.

Yes, interesting comparison. The FAA-run ATC system is much better than the InsCorp-run health care system. Thanks for pointing that out.
