“Jay Rockefeller: The Affordable Care Act is probably the most complex piece of legislation ever passed by the United States Congress…It’s beyond comprehension.”
Would you expect anything less from a 2,000 page law?
I think it is fair to say that the ACA is a complex system of legislation in large part because our Health Care System is in such a complex haywire. The legislation is a mirror reflection of the very system it is meant to govern.
I would be interested to see how popular, over time, telemedicine becomes in relation to everything that is going on. Certainly this would be an effective way to bring down the cost of care.
I wonder how this complex 2000 pages of legislation is going to impact the health care industry. Surely, there has to be some kind of benefit coming from this.
It’s probably more accurate to explain that telemedicine got its start in Antarctica — and other remote regions, rural areas, battle fields etc. where access to a doctor was very difficult. Telemedicine really isn’t new. It’s just that some savvy people began to realize that there’s no reason to travel to a doctor’s office when a telephone would do.
It’s really exciting that he’s raising taxes on tobacco to fund preschool for low/middle income families. Considering that the 90% tax hike most impacts low/middle income families..
I find the article on telemedicine very appealing. However, I can’t help but think of the risks of using this technological approach. What are the chances that physicians misdiagnose a patient because they can’t feel or see a patient’s body? I personally don’t think you can get the full picture through a video conference. There is a good chance that physicians will miss certain aspect of the evaluation because they don’t have the patient in front of them.
Jay Rockefeller: The Affordable Care Act is probably the most complex piece of legislation ever passed by the United States Congress…It’s beyond comprehension.
What do you expect from a law that requires patients to fill out a 20+ pages long application just to be considered for approval? They lost me in the application alone! It’s ridiculous.
“Another sign of [Marilyn Tavenner’s] likely confirmation: During the last 20 minutes of the hearing for the woman who will oversee Obamacare, there wasn’t a single Republican senator in the committee room.”
On telemedicine:
“the increased adoption of electronic medical records allows documentation to be shared more easily and quickly”
I am very pleased by this. There are already iPhone and iPad apps that allow patients to “chat” with their primary care doctors via a secure connection. I’ve seen melanoma diagnosed via text message while the patient was vacationing in the Caribbean. These advancements in medical tech are simply astounding.

@ Obama Tax Hike
Great more taxes. I just don’t understand how all this is going to help the economy.

The 2014 presidential budget is so far in left field. Fortunately it’s just a proposal, and Congress is so full of rational people.
Telemedicine advances all the way to Antarctica.
This is marvelous! I hope they don’t start trying to find wrong things about this advancement to the point of limiting its growth.

“Top ten tax hikes in President Obama’s budget.”
Tax distribution is more of an ideological matter often debated by economists and adopted by politicians.
“Telemedicine advances all the way to Antarctica.”
I think this is encouraging and interesting to see how it develops over the years.
