    @ The TFA Article

I always thought TFA was an effective model, by targeting overachieving college students, TFA brought in highly intelligent individuals in a practice that usually attracted underachievers. Most teachers were in 50th percentile in their graduating class.

    @ Australia paying organ donor

This might be an interesting way to increase the supply. I am for it because who knows, it can go to valuable research or saving another person’s life, given that I am already dead. Hope I get some karma points for that in the after-life.

    “President’s budget leaked”

At least it is a step in the right direction. Obama deserves a little praise for taking a stand on a tough political issue. Whether he can withstand his own party remains to be seen.

    @ Taxing on Large IRA

I feel like taxing only complicates the picture of an extremely complex economy. When will it ever stop? A government operating beyond its means is not a healthy picture in the long run. It is not sustainable and it does not encourage responsible independent behaviors, just look at the explosion of entitlement programs.

    @ TFA besting their peers

I think TFA commercialized teaching as an alluring profession to highly accomplished undergraduates who have options with their career. Given that public education suffered from bad teachers, TFA brought in new talents.

What is a marshmallow party exactly? I don’t think the article clarifies this.

  7. Alvaro says:

“Teach for America teachers are besting their peers.”

Very interesting article. As a former selected TFA corps member, but ultimately decided to decline the offer, I find it interesting that recent graduates, like myself, as successfully demonstrating to be better quality teachers in many cases than traditional teachers. If this doesn’t demonstrate the lack of quality teaching in the U.S., then I am not sure what does. High-achieving graduates should also be seeking teaching as a career, but when we can’t stymie the level of competition in the educational field, the quality of teachers will continue to be low.

  8. Evelyn says:

“Worst items: A tax on large IRA accounts and a Pre-K entitlement.”

I definitely don’t think IRA’s should be messed with, no matter what the amount of the IRA may be. It’s an individual retirement account and it shouldn’t be treated any differently and taxed appropriately, not through a biased added tax on larger accounts.

“Teach for America teachers are besting their peers”

    – I never understood why teachers needed a degree in “teaching”. As a matter of fact, in no other profession are people trained to “teach” the material, rather experts in the field of study are considered the best teachers.

  10. A.D. Samson says:

The aprenticeship model for teaching seems to no longer be used to teach material.

  11. Studebaker says:

    Australia to pay organ donors.

Donated organs are worth a fortune. But, under the current system the only ones allowed to profit from a donated organ are doctors, hospitals and so-called “non-profit” organizations that arrange for organ donation.
