John, did you know that almost all human activities are mental disorders. How else are the shrinks going to maximize their incomes?

Playing mahjongg for 8 hours might be a mental disorder.

Picky eating is a matter of degree. We all have foods that we’d rather not eat. But, I suppose it crosses the line when it interferes with your daily life. Is it possible that there is an actual physical problem for these people?

It seems symbollic to me. Perhaps picky eating is a means of controlling the situation (My mom has a friend who always gets sick when they try new restaurants, so the group only goes to places where she is comfortable.) Another possibility is that people who are picky eaters are afraid of novelty. How do they make choices regarding the rest of their activities? Are they afraid to try new sports or read a different type of book?

I would bet that there was probably a time when picky eating benefited them somehow (either socially via power plays or psychologically by being a comfort food), and they haven’t fully come to terms with it.

Of course, there is still a problem if the applicant can’t read at the sixth grade level.

  5. Devon Herrick says:

I wouldn’t go as far as to say picking eating is a mental disorder but I can easily see how someone who is neurotic could exhibit some quirky behaviors such as being really picky eater.
