Latest VA Audit: 57,000 Vets Awaiting Medical Appointments; 63,000 Enrolled but Never Seen for Care

Nationwide, an estimated 57,436 veterans are waiting to be scheduled for care, and another 63,869 have enrolled in the VA healthcare system over the past 10 years and have not been seen for an appointment, according to a fact sheet about the audit findings. The VA is “moving aggressively” to contact these veterans.

The 59-page report determined that the VA’s scheduling process was overly complicated, causing confusion among scheduling clerks and frontline staff. In addition, the 14-day policy for new appointments wasn’t an attainable goal due to the growing demand for services.

This is completely outrageous! I guess that this is inevitable with any government-run health system. Just watch as Obamacare goes up into flames as a result of problems, similar to those found in the VA Health System, Medicare, and Medicaid, that will inevitably beset the program.

    • Thomas says:

Especially as Medicaid expands. As one out of every five people get on Medicaid, they will see a dramatic decrease in the care and access to care that they receive.

      • Buddy says:

And that is if the books aren’t already cooked in the Medicaid program. People will realize the health care they receive under Medicaid is of such poor quality and demand a change.

        • Dale says:

They should make all of the officials responsible for creating this to be on government run health care plans and be denied access to care or pay large sums for their premiums and deductibles.

Yes, it totally is Sabrina! The surprising thing is that that it took so long to discover. We all know that the government does its best to cover up its mistakes – on a daily basis. That these problems were able to go undetected as long as they were is crazy, especially in light of how good bureaucrats are at hiding their program’s failures.

    • James M. says:

Well when you are eligible to receive bonuses, and you don’t have the numbers to back it up, instead of improving bureaucrats choose to fudge the numbers.

      • Bill B. says:

“The only people it hurts are the veterans, and they are tough to begin with right?”

        – Every bureaucrat at the VA.

“The VA is “moving aggressively” to contact these veterans.”

Don’t forget that by “moving aggressively,” they mean “at their own pace.”

    • John R. Graham says:

“Aggressively” is a very odd adverb to describe what should be a compassionate response, isn’t it?

Its amazing that so many people depend on this service for their medical needs, yet so many were neglected. Government run institutions never fail to surprise me with their ineffectiveness.
