But Can It Tell You If Your Lover Has Been Faithful?

Brain scan can apparently read people’s thoughts:

The researchers scanned the participants’ brains while the participants were asked to recall each of the films. The researchers then ran the imaging data through a computer algorithm designed to identify patterns in the brain activity associated with memories for each of the films.

Finally, they showed that those patterns could be identified to accurately predict which film a given person was thinking about when he or she was scanned.

  1. Devon Herrick says:

I wonder if the films were specifically chosen to have a wide variation in the timing of sequences thought to cause viewers’ heart rates to rise (or brain chemistry to change) at different points in the films.

  2. Stephen C. says:

I think it probably could detect infidelity. But what spouse would be dumb enough to submit to such a test?

  3. Paul H. says:

Question: what if we put Obama, Pelosi and Reid under the scan. Could it determine when they aren’t telling the truth?

  4. Bruce says:

Paul, have you ever seen the movie, “Liar, Liar”? It shows how misearble life is for a lawyer when he can no longer lie. Imagine how much worse it would be for a lawyer/politician.

  5. Tom H. says:

Bruce, it’s several orders of magnitude worse if you are in the White House or in the leadership, where lying is part of the job description.

  6. Juan O'Malley says:

Everyone lies. That’s why nursing homes are called “Shady Acres” or “Garden Estates,” instead of “Miserable Place Where You Go to Die.”

Paul, I believe that Obama, Pelosi and Reid, by the mere act of breathing can be said to be lying!
