The White House has released the talking points for tonight’s speech by President Obama. Amazing.

  1. Joe Barnett says:

I would have thought the President would at least tout increased health care employment — to serve all the newly insured. But that hasn’t happened either.
How about “Green health care jobs” and “Slow Food health care jobs”?

    None of those either.

  2. Buster says:

I guess this means I don’t have to actually watch the SOTU speech. As a policy analyst, I find the SOTU to be little more than political rhetoric. It’s such political theater anyway. The President never actually talks about the state of the union. Have you ever heard a president announce the union is in a sucky state?

  3. Carolyn Needham says:

Well it will be in the news enough in the coming months…

  4. Studebaker says:

Expanding on what Buster said… The President always pretends the entire country is one big happy family! Can you imagine if the president was honest and said… “The economy in the state of California sucks but the state of Texas is doing great!”

  5. Eric says:

Considering there has been barely any substantive discussion of health care in the Republican campaign (sorry, promising to repeal Obamacare doesn’t count), it’s understandable that Obama doesn’t feel the need to talk about it. Was there even a question about health care in last night’s debate? I can’t remember one.

Plus, I agree with Buster. The wonky details of health care, while interesting to those of us who follow blogs such as this one, don’t really make for great SOTU material, and the speech is largely about political theater and rallying the base.

  6. Bruce says:

    No surprise here.

  7. Brian says:

Since the legislation passed, they’ve completely lost the PR war. Also, it’s hard for the POTUS to talk about it when the SCOTUS is about to discuss it and determine its fate.

  8. Anne Alice says:

What? Not touting the victories? Bragging on the success stories?
