Tratment of the old woman is adding insult to injury. Jail time on top of all the Medicare cuts in ObamaCare????

  2. Vicki says:

Having a child for the sole purpose of creating a stem cell donor???? Yes, that is very troubling.

One has to wonder how much of the religious wars can be attribute solely to politics and self-interest. In the late 12th century, Pope Innocent III, declared a crusade against the Cathar Christians, in what is now Southern France’s Languedoc region. The first military commander was a Cistercian abbot who, when he laid siege to the town of Béziers (France), instructed his soldiers “Kill them all. God will know his own”.

By some estimates 500,000 Languedoc natives where killed — including Catholics who defended their lands. The lords who were tolerant of the Cathars were deposed and the region was annexed by France. The Catholic Church didn’t want a competing religion to erode its power. The barons that raised the army wanted land and rewards. I would argue this was as much a political battle as a religious one.

The author of the USA Today piece on violence among the early Christians of Egypt and modern-day Turkey some 1,500 years ago has come away with the wrong conclusion: It’s not that early Christianity was violent, but rather people from the Middle East are!

  5. Paul H. says:

Devon, that’s one more argument for the separation of church and state.

Of course it’s not OK for these parents to try to have a second child to be a stem cell donor for the first. Just as the potter destroys his broken vessels, so too must this couple get rid of their defective child. Therefore, they should throw him into a volcano to appease Moloch, god of fire.

That women in the park was lucky she wasn’t arrested in Arizona, they would have handed over to the INS if she didn’t have her citizenship papers on her. It would have been weeks before she was released!

It’s no surprise that the government is holding up e-filing. Here we have a banking system where I can take a picture of a check with my iphone and have the money instantly in my account, but I have to carry a piece of paper to a pharmacy to get my controlled-substance prescription. Doesn’t make any sense.

  9. Bart Ingles says:

It seems obvious that “jihad” and “crusade” are synonyms. In lower-case form, both refer to some sort of struggle for justice. When capitalized, both generally refer to some sort of organized atrocity, with few exceptions.
