White House Asks Americans to Report on Each Other

White House Director of New Media, Macon Phillips asserts there is “a lot of disinformation out there,” and encourages citizens to report “fishy” speech opposing White House efforts to reform health care.  Phillips specifically targets private, unpublished, even casual speech. “Rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation,” he says. “If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”

Sen. John Cornyn responds with a scathing letter. Stops short of calling the White House program “fascism.”

Rumor has it that over at the NCPA web site there are all kinds of bloggers who are not entirely adoring of the President. Let’s report them all.

  2. Larry C. says:

Ken, I am going to report you first!!

  3. Greg says:

Do you suppose the White House is going to keep an enemies list?

  4. Ted says:

I think we should all scan a picture of a fish and send it to them. They want to know something fishy. Just overload their system.

  5. Devon Herrick says:

Many totalitarian regimes censor the press and restrict freedom of speech. Yet I suspect those countries don’t actually censor speech that is flattering to the regime or in support of its agenda. To identify which speech conflicts with the “party line” censors must monitor unapproved communication. It does not bode well for the United States when the Administration has an initiative to monitor its critic’s speech – especially when it wants fellow citizens to be the tattletales.

Being educated in what Communism is could possiblly wake up the American’s who want to participate in ratting our their family, friends, or neighbors. Has anyone studied how Hitler came into power? It was in part due to a created society of what could first be referred to as “do gooders”, but ended up taking the shape of the “SS” which is what this flag@whitehouse.gov is. The president is trying to systematically taking away our freedoms, but thank God we have access to technology that keeps us informed and we have some way of fighting back; unlike the 6 million+ people whose lives were taken in order to createe a “perfect society.”

Why would we expect anything less from the Obama White House? Obama grew up around, and was nurtured and taught by Socialists. And the majority of his active employment was as a social activist. To him and the Socialist faithful in his administration, anyone who disagrees with their grand plans is bad, and must be found out, discredited, and watched.
I expect we will see many more things in the near future that will astound and dismay our traditional American senses.
I keep wondering–who did vote for these folks? What were they thinking, and what do they believe?

  8. R. G. SMITH says:

    WHAT’S THE PROBLEM COMRADE?

  9. Richard says:

Please people. I haven’t read the full context of Phillips remark but I suspect the meaning becomes clearer if I did. That said, the White House is certainly aware of the rights propensity to quote out of context and should know better.

Taken at the worst, comparing it to Nazi Germany (ironic as Germany has one of the best single payer plans in the world) and Cuba is ridicoulous.

The amount of misinformation out there and staged outtings at town hall meetings is highly alarming. If any of you know history you know the Nazis used the same tactics to overthrow a popular government.

This administration is under full assault because the past shennigans of the right led to their total loss of the legislative and excutive branches in the last election. Today they lost another one to the judicial branch.

The right is playing dirty and the executive is countering. Sounds like American politics to me.

  10. Bevo says:

    Bring it on!

America will not stand for the attempted censorship of free speech.

I oppose Barack Obama and I think he is a socialist.

Report me and the rest of Texas!

  11. Brian says:

    OH PLEASE.
It is quite clear to those who actually think, that this is an information site where one can recieve actual information rather than the lies told in order to stop any reforms.
All one needs to do is watch FoxNews as they glorify the tea-baggers that are not in meetings to get information, but are there to disrupt and ensure that no-one is heard.
If a person has concerns, that is one thing. Free-speech and you can ask whatever you want, but when all you do is scream at the top of your lungs so that no-one can talk, you are doing nothing but being obstructionary. Most of the time, if you close your eyes, you will get a picture of a spoiled 3 year old brat– throwing a temper tantrum.
You might not like reform, you may have questions and concerns, legitimate or not. That is one thing- but to ensure that your questions don’t ever get answered and that no-one else can speak is against free-speech itself and these idiots have no legs to stand on. They are there for one purpose— disruption. That is blatantly plain for all to see.
As for the information site- yet another terrorist-like smear campaign to enable the ignorance of the American public. The furor is specifically to scare people from accessing a site that can give them actual information. Hidden behind references to communism and or Nazi regimes, secret police and lists- all sounds axactly to the Republican patriot act, the republican domestic spying program, and finally the establishment of police right to search and seize without warrant or cause. Republicans won’t, or can’t afford to, admit that as far as your constitutional proitections it has been the republican/conservatives in power that have reduced personal freedoms. NOT Obama!
Is Obama perfect? Far from it. But it is at times like this that someone needs to stand up against the complete lies and terrorist activities being used by conservatives and special interests against our elderly, the disabled, and every other American citizen.
Stats are blown out of proportion when you can find the same exact stats here with the present system.
Anyway scince this is a conservative site, (no way NCPA can claim to be impartial- not and be honest), I know that I am in the minority. I know rthat I will be ridiculed, called names, dismissed— whatever.
    How to tell conservatives—
    1) “when in doubt or in the wrong, assasinate the character of your opponent.”
    2) “never tell the truth”
    3) “take exceptions and make the perception as being the norm”

These are the in-escapable methods of conservative activity especially when dealing with health-care reform.
    Now let’s not be fooled–
    1) Dems take as much bribe money as do republicans to write laws.
    2) Spending is an issue and the debt being incurred is questionably needed.
    3) That every government never tells its people the truth of the matter (propoganda).
    4) That most likely there will be NO reform to the healthcare industry as we know it today. (especially not if left in the hands of conservatives/republicans who have had 6 years to “reform” the system but, despite their own president’s call to action, refused to do so.)
    5) That government has ALWAYS operated with a deficit and always will.

I applaud your courage and eloquence, and am in total agreement with your statements. God Bless America.
