Wall Street Journal: Six Innovations that are Changing Health Care
- High-tech video command centers to monitor ICU patients remotely
- Electronic-medical-records systems to help prevent medical errors and make sure doctors follow guidelines for delivering medical care
- Ten strategies to fight hospital infections
- Checklists to reduce infections
- Public report cards for doctors and hospitals
- Patient- and family-centered care
This is all rah, rah. No discussion of the down side of these innovations.
And not a peep about the revolutionary effects of consumer directed health plans.
What I find most interesting about this list is that it doesn’t consist of particularly high-tech solutions. Many of these items were barrowed from other industries that adopted them sooner — mostly because the industries were competing on price and quality.
