Jackboot Health Care

Kathleen Sebelius’s Thursday letter to America’s Health Insurance Plans, the industry trade group [is] a thuggish message even by her standards. The Health and Human Services secretary wrote that some insurers have been attributing part of their 2011 premium increases to ObamaCare and warned that “there will be zero tolerance for this type of misinformation and unjustified rate increases.”

Zero tolerance for expressing an opinion, or offering an explanation to policyholders? They’re more subtle than this in Caracas.

  3. Tom H. says:

Every day I run across people in the health care world who are literally afraid to express an opinion that opposes the position of the White House. Maybe this is the way things were during the Roosevelt era, but we have never seen anything like this in modern times.

  4. Devon Herrick says:

If health insurers raise premiums (or lower them) it should be their prerogative to explain the reason for their actions. Sebelius may not like the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) being cited as the reason, but insurers themselves are the only ones to know why they are raising rates. It could simply be that insurers raised premiums because the ACA increased uncertainty in the future and forced them to shorten their time horizon for generating profits.

When is the national news media going to wake up to this blatant attack on freedom of speech?

I am an active Health Insurance agent in Texas. Obamacare has threaten to crush my livelihood. I serve my clients with excellence.

From the beginning, I have been pointing out that Obamacare would push premiums 20-30% higher within 18 months of signing. Why would the administration want people to feel this kind of pain? To create a crisis, target a villain (insurance companies), and focus all blame on said villain. They want to crush the industry.

Meanwhile, my team and I try to help & educate folks on HSA plans and try to survive this unwarranted attack on insurance.

    It’s over in November!
