Daschle’s Gone; But His Health Board is in the Stimulus Package

This is Betsy McCaughey writing at Bloomberg.com:

The National Coordinator of Health Information Technology will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and "guide" your doctor's decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.

  1. Joe S. says:

This is actually kind of scary.

  2. Larry C. says:

They’re going to ration your health care, Joe.

  3. Bret says:

I think Daschle was pretty clear about this in his book. Can’t remember if he used the word “rationing.” But he was clear that patients aren’t going to get all the health care they might want.

  4. Nancy says:

Wonder why they are sneaking this into the stimulus package, with no debate or discussion.

In fact, we wouldn’t even know about it if Betsy McCaughey had not pored line by line over what must have been a very lengthy and incredibly boring text.
