Could It Be Magic?

We previously reported on the victims of shamans and witch doctors in Africa. David Gibson reports on witch-hunt victims in the Wall Street Journal:

Amnesty International reported that more than 1,000 people were rounded up in Gambia in a government-sponsored witch-hunt, and in Tanzania alone, at least 45 albinos have been murdered since 2007 because popular superstition holds that they are witches.

[However,] Polls show that at least half of Americans confess to being superstitious to one degree or another — one-third believe in astrology — and belief in various forms of the paranormal are on the rise.

  1. Joe S. says:

The question is: who saves more lives? The witch doctors? Or the allopathic doctors? I’m not sure the answer is obvious.

I’m not sure about the shamans, but the song is a great moldy oldie.

  3. Bruce says:

The difference betwen America and Africa is not that Americans do not believe in witch craft. The differnce is that we stopped burning witches at the stake.

Of course, now that I think about it, it hasn’t been all that long ago.

  4. Bart says:

America never burned witches at the stake. We only hanged a few in the 1600’s.

  5. GAETANA says:

I like to check my horoscope every day just to give me an idea of how things might go.
