Being Helpful is in Our Genes
Biologists are beginning to form a generally sunnier view of humankind… babies are innately sociable and helpful to others. Of course every animal must to some extent be selfish to survive. But the biologists also see in humans a natural willingness to help.
Interesting. And not surprising when you stop to think about it. Helpfulness has evolutionary survival value.
This is the opposite of the point of view in William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies.” And Golding’s point of view has probably been dominant for a long time.
