    The derpression result is perfectly understandable. Who wants to bear his soul to a threapist when you can pop a pill instead?

    The economics of drug therapy are such that you can pop a daily 20mg Fluoxetine (i.e. generic Prozac) for less than $1 per week. The alternative cost of seeing a psychiatrist for a weekly half hour talk therapy session might be 100 times that amount.

    Are you implicitly agreeing that acupuncture “works”? I thought there was considerable question about that.

    When Prozac went generic, I was saving so much money, I wasn’t depressed anymore.

    As I understand it, the hospitals make money on their readmissions. So they have no economic incentive to get it right the first time.

    Just because a pill costs 100 times less than therapy session or even acupuncture does not mean that the potential cost of The pill’s side effects should not be considered. It should be relatively easy to estimate The total cost of medicine including side effects across The entire population of pill poppers. This is something that should be done.
