Solving mental problems the old-fashioned way — with a knife: “In the last decade or so, more than 500 people have undergone brain surgery for problems like depression, anxiety, Tourette’s syndrome, even obesity, most as a part of medical studies.”

Madison, Wisc. has something no other city has: Black and white infant mortality rates that are the same: Nobody knows why.

The answer to your last question is “yes.” The Indian Health Service is definitely worse than health care in Canada or Britain.

  2. Larry C. says:

Bruce, maybe you’re right. But do Canadian Indians get better care than American Indians? I doubt it.

  3. Tom H. says:

Interesting about Madison. In general, the black infant mortality rate is about twice the white rate at every level of education. I believe I read that in one of Goodman’s books.

  4. Bret says:

Carbon dioxide is plant food. Whatever you can do to increase your carbon footprint is helping out the plant life all over the world.

Review by Ilovebooks! for Rating: This textbook was well worth the money. It is rcsuoreeful and up-to-date. I am very pleased with it. The writing and layout was very easy-to-read and comprehensive. I found the information useful for a variety of contexts such as environmental health, global health issues, program planning on international programs, and demographic analysis and data.
