Surprising Fact of the Day.
I’m attending an NCPA Chairman’s club conference at the Biltmore right now, in Ashville, North Carolina. Here is a bit of non-public information I gleaned.
Barack Obama does not know which SEAL team member killed Osama bin Laden. The reason? They won’t tell him.
It’s probably better that information like this is kept secret. It could put the soldier or his family at risk.
Maybe he should watch the videotape. Where’s that gone to?
Unsurprising, but priceless nonetheless.
Navy “SEAL Team” has become synonymous with special forces units in general. For all we know, it was an Army SFOD unit.
But the conspiracy theorist in my head can’t help but ask whether this is part of a larger plausible deniability need for the President.
If I were that soldier, or any on the team, I’d want as few people as possible to know my identity. I was very disappointed the media revealed the team’s home base in the U.S.
“Loose lips sink ships”…The administration has already purged too much (and contradictory) information on the raid. There is no benefit to society for releasing the individual’s name.
“I’m sorry Mr. President, but you’re on a ‘need-to-know’ basis and you don’t need to know.”
That’s fascinating!
I understand the need for secrecy, but one would suspect the Commander-in-Chief would receive such information. Perhaps Wikileaks has inspired more precaution?
