Obama’s Priorities
Brian S. Wesbury and Robert Stein, CFA, reflect on Obama's misplaced health care policy emphasis:
Every federal resource (time, money or political capital) that is focused on national health insurance, income redistribution and climate change is a resource that is not focused on financial market problems. And even though he was misguided, at least Franklin Delano Roosevelt's first two years in office were focused on trying to save the economy. That was his goal. Social Security did not get implemented until the late 1930s.
I disagree with Brian. It’s better if Obama is distracted. The only thing getting us out of the financial crisis is the Federal Reserve System. Obama’s fiscal policy is only making things worse.
Obviously, the most important issue is the financial crisis in the credit markets. All other distractions are harmful to getting the crisis solved.
Every federal resource that is focused on national health insurance is is not focused on getting actual medical care for actual people. Coverage, especially from the government, is not the same as care.
