The VA Health System used to be considered the model of efficiency but has recently come under attack for quality problems. Some of the criticisms are that soldiers with complex needs are not getting those needs met. I don’t find this too hard to believe. Bureaucratic health care systems around the world save money by catering to the needs of the many who need little; and ration care to the few who need very expensive care.
Actually, I like the idea of modeling Medicare after veterinarian care far better than modeling it after the VA Health System. At least veterinarian care is mostly a free market – absent the bureaucracy of third party payment (although, technically, the pet’s owner is a third-party payer).
With respect to Devon’s point, it’s easy to see how utilitarian bureaucratic healthcare systems are in how they determine what/how much care to give and to whom. Serving more people who need less care gets their numbers up, and perhaps earns them more funding, etc.. But I’m just guessing here.
Apparently this gentleman has never talked with veterans who have a choice between VA and Medicare and choose Medicare.

Like the photo.

I’d bet our pets don’t want their vet care modeled after any healthcare system we’ve been using lately.
That dog has the same look on his face that I had the day Obamacare passed!!
