    Ironically, Sen Baucus wants to allow near-retirees to join Medicare. Of what value is Medicare, if the doctors won’t see you.

    I’m not surprised to see that the Mass Health Plan is more expensive than expected. There is absolutely nothing in the plan that encourages anyone to control costs.

    “Young, healthy adults are the most unjustly affected by mandatory insurance. These patients consume the fewest medical resources and therefore, under mandatory insurance, most heavily subsidize the costs of the older, more-frequently-ill patients.

    If Massachusetts requires pure community rating, then the plan was doomed from the start. Young adults have their own challenges, such as establishing careers and families; forcing them to carry yet another subsidy for older people is even more offensive than the existence of an individual mandate.
