Berwick Praises the NHS, New Way to Treat Pain, and the “(In)fidelity Gene”

Donald Berwick praising the British National Health Service. (video) This is President Obama’s nominee to run Medicare.

New way to treat pain: blocking the nerves to the brain. Didn’t I see this in a James Bond movie?

The “(in)fidelity gene”: Men who have it are more likely to have serious marital problems and unhappy wives.

I have an idea for women. Get your dates to give you a DNA swab so that you can have them tested for fidelity. Think of all the heartbreak this could avert.

  2. Tom H. says:

That video is truly disgusting. But I suspect that Barack Obama thinks exactly the same way.

  3. Ken says:

Carl, I think the guys need to swab the gals as well.

  4. Vicki says:

Wouldn’t it be easier if people would self test and have those with the gene wear some kind of badge.

    I would recommend a scarlett “A”.

  5. Larry C. says:

The Bond movie is “The World is not Enough.” In it, the evil terrorist, Renard, has a bullet lodged in his brain and it makes it impossible for him to feel pain.

  6. Bruce says:

So one more socialist joins the Obama Administration. What’s the big deal?

  7. Virginia says:

Berwick’s speech: I don’t understand why people think that health care is a right. It’s not a right.

Is there any scholarly work that deals with rights as they relate to health care? I know that some people argue that health care is an extension of natural rights, but to me health care implies technology (the knowledge required to make a material diffence in disease outcomes), which has not always been part of humanity.

    Any thoughts?

Don Berwick is awaiting Senate confirmation to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).

Given his comments, I am not at all confident he got passing grades in his Master’s economic courses. What are they teaching these days at the Kennedy School of Government?
