“…the last of life, for which the first was made.”
Ms. Baumann’s [Medicare Advantage] plan covers her “Silver Sneakers” gym membership, worth $54 a month, at Franco’s health club and spa. The plan includes $10 a month worth of sunscreen, vitamins and other products, and free home-delivered meals after surgery. Ms. Baumann pays no premium beyond what seniors pay for traditional Medicare.

Sounds like a great deal.
This shows you how much waste there is in Medicare. A private company can take the same amount of money Medicare would have spent and not only provide the same (or, so I’ve read, better) health care but also provide all these bell and whistles.
Slap me for disrespecting my elders, but I really don’t feel too bad that Ms. Baumann may have to give up her Silver Sneakers gym membership.
Headline should read: “The last of life for which the first is paying.”
Remember, you’re paying for her Social Security too.
I am mixed on this one. The Gym membership can go two ways. It can keep her healthy, vibrant, and socially connected which could lower her overall health expenses. Or, she could break a hip while exercising and begin that spiral downward. Tough call.
