Two Headlines I Wish I Hadn’t Seen

Harold Pollack on Sen. Menendez’s shady relationship with a Florida doctor.

But he leaves out the sex scandal. Warning to other public figures: don’t promise to pay a prostitute $500 and then give her only $100 (isn’t this basic common sense?).

Basic common sense would dictate you don’t have financial arrangements (or other interactions) with prostitutes.

It’s disturbing how often these sex scandals pop up in DC. These politicians have power, prestige and wealth yet they still feel the need to throw it all away.

It amazes me how every month there is a new top-level public official who falls from his office due to some silly sexual escapade. I say his because I can’t recall a single female accused of such transgressions. These people are supposed to be leaders. Hopefully smart leaders. At the bare minimum we hope they are smart. But obviously not smart enough to not rip off a prostitute or engage in easily uncovered cronyism. Menend-is will soon be Menend-was.

Knowing close friends who know Senator Menendez very well, I find it hard to believe the prostitute allegations, truly, truly hard to believe. This whole scandal sounds incredibly sketchy and I wouldn’t be surprised if these allegations end up being false. On the story related to his friend…that may be another story. We’ll see.

As we all learned from the critically acclaimed film ‘Moulin Rouge!’ – it is always better to pay your whores.
