One of the commenters on David Freidman’s blog said while performing colon cancer research for a PhD, he thought of the idea of a colonphone where a probe could be used to self-test for colon cancer. That’s taking self-care to a whole new level. Of course, the FDA would never allow consumers to self-diagnose conditions that are so serious.
I think David Friedman’s idea is interesting. More generally, I am intrigued by the idea of patients taking moe control over testing and monitoring their own health.
I think a drug vending machine is a great idea. I’m sure there are some security concerns, but, overall, I don’t see why pharmacists think they ought to be immune to gains in technology.
