  1. Nancy says:

My answer: at the doctor’s office.

  2. Vicki says:

I agree with Nancy. It’s not even close.

  3. Ron says:

Waiting on the phone is no picnic. But now that I think about it, the most annoying waits tend to be health related — like phoning in a prescription.

  4. Larry C. says:

There’s always the DMV. But they operate just like the health care system, anyway.

  5. Devon Herrick says:

People will tolerate irritating conditions when they perceive something is free. Just try to catch a free pass as a movie “sneak preview”. The last time I tried there were people camped out with lawn chairs waiting in line for a couple hours for a ticket that would have only cost $9. Some people wait in crowded ERs because their time is worth less than their money. I also believe that is why people tolerate one to two hour waits in their doctor’s office — they perceive the visit as costing little more than their time.

Devon makes a good point. Often time for money trade-offs are made by those who value time less. These people will, no doubt, further bog down the system under Obamacare. I believe that it’s also more annoying to wait in the doctor’s office because, unless one is feeling sick and in need of care, it seems as though there are fewer perceptible gains from a regular check-up than, say, a free movie.
