WellPoint is using “reference pricing” on up to 900 different services.

I think this is a great idea. The key, however, is education and the tools to make it where enrollees can compare prices. It is often rather difficult to shop around for medical services because doctors, clinics and labs aren’t in the habit of competing on price. That said, it can be done and it would be much easier if the entity that knows the price (the health plan for example), assists enrollees in finding out which imaging centers provide high quality scans at a competitive price, for example.

“ObamaCare call center will accommodate 150 different languages.”

-I should buy stock in Rosetta Stone!

“The Obama administration launched its promotion of the new health care law in earnest Monday, revealing that it has asked the National Football League to advertise insurance options as it rolls out a glossy new website and a 24-hour call center to clear up confusion about the law.”

Hmm, interesting. I may attempt to call just to find out how easily an average person will be given information and what type of information.

“asked the National Football League”? Hopefully, “paid the National Football League” goes along with this.
