  1. LMB says:

Demark has so many taxes and fees that they should have a minimal effect on anything. The fat tax only has worked on 7 percent to get them to stop using some things that would help them get fatter. However, that might be a much better effect than any of their other many taxes and fees.

  2. Buster says:

Denmark’s fat tax harms the economy and produces little change in behavior.

I thought this had been repealed already. Overweight people already know they are overweight. People pay large sums for weight loss programs. I suspect that a few extra cents is not going to change behavior where other costs have not.

    • Kyle says:

      Yep the article says:

“Ultimately, Danish politicians weighed the negligible health benefits against the demonstrable social and economic costs and swiftly abandoned it. Few mourn its passing.”

  3. Studebaker says:

The last time I was in Denmark, the cost of beer was more than a 6-pack in the U.S. You almost needed to take out a second mortgage to buy dinner in a restaurant. An item of clothing in a shop was more costly than a shopping cart of clothing at a Walmart. I’ve always suspected the Viking conquests were mostly about attempts to flee the high taxes at home.

It makes sense that younger children would have an easier time with the puzzle, because they haven’t learned how to do higher levels of math. How long did it take other people to solve?

    • August says:

That’s the real big hint too. If preschoolers can do it then there can’t be too much math. I got it in about 30 seconds.

    • ColoComment says:

It took me about 10 secs. My math skills top out at about 5th grade level, so I immediately gave up on the math. The loops just popped into my eye about 5 secs. later, and it took about 5 more secs. to confirm what I thought I was seeing.

Yah, an example of where less is more.

  5. Tom says:

“ObamaCare insurance: deductible for the silver plan is $2,000; for the bronze plan it’s $5,000. (Karen Davis must be in mourning.)”

But I thought the whole point was to create affordable coverage for those who can’t otherwise afford it…?

  6. Tom says:

“Denmark’s fat tax harms the economy and produces little change in behavior.”

For a second I thought they were going as far as taxing overweight people for being, well, overweight (fat). Hah.

  7. Fez says:

“…the MMS is committed to ensuring that the statute is interpreted broadly, and does not unintentionally disenfranchise thousands of physicians, thereby creating an extreme health care access issue.”

    -Massachusetts Medical Society

    Sooo what’s the problem?

  8. Bon Qui Qui says:

“One survey found that only 7 percent of the population reduced the amount of butter, cream and cheese they bought, and another survey found that 80 percent of Danes did not change their shopping habits at all.”

Wow 80 percent of people didn’t change anything about their buying habits? I wonder what the methodology of the study was…because that statistic seems questionable.

  9. Falisha says:

I was told that Obamacare would make healthcare cheaper not more expensive. This really disappointing
