What do Aetna, CIGNA, Jack in the Box, Denny’s, Asbestos Workers Local 53, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 123, Local 25 SEIU all have in common? They are among 111 companies, unions and other entities that have been granted waivers from complying with the new health reform law.
Supporting the passage of Obamacare, but asking for an exemption from Obamacare’s regulations, seems disingenuous. Perhaps hypocritical is a better word.
Where do I get my waiver?????
This is disgusting. Remember when you had to be a friend of Bill to get a pardon? Now I guess you have to be a friend fo Barack to get a waiver.
The reason for these waivers is abvious: ObamaCare is a job killer.
The problem with waivers is they last only a year. These companies will have to go back year-after-year begging for the right to offer workers the types of insurance that meets their needs. It is also problematic to expect insurers to remain competitive in a market that technically cannot exist under current law without waivers. Over time the number of firms competing for this business will dwindle .
Hey, you forgot to list “Captain Elliot’s Party Boats.” It got a waiver for 10 people on 10/26. When it comes time to renew maybe they’ll offer the appropriate bureaucrats a party.
What we need is a waiver for the John Goodman’s Health Policy Blog Reader Union.
The waivers may only last a year, but I bet they renew automatically given sufficient campaign contributions.
You all aren’t thinking like economists. What we need is a market for waivers, where they can be bought and sold. The government could auction off an initial round and use the money to pay for some of the costs of Obama Care. Economists could use the selling prices to gauge the overall social costs of the reform on innocent victims.
