How Much Do You Trust the Government?

Before answering, read this:

A secret history of the United States government’s Nazi-hunting operation concludes that American intelligence officials created a “safe haven” in the United States for Nazis and their collaborators after World War II…

The 600-page report, which the Justice Department has tried to keep secret for four years, provides new evidence about more than two dozen of the most notorious Nazi cases of the last three decades.

Full report obtained by New York Times despite the government’s attempt to prevent it.

  1. Bruce says:

This post does not make me distrust the government more than I already distrusterd it. It merely confirms my pre-existing level of distrust.

  2. Ken says:

Waht’s amazing is that 60 years after the fact the federal bureaucrats still don’t want you to know about it.

  3. Devon Herrick says:

Most bureaucrats and government workers are probably harmless enough. I fear the army of paternalistic bureaucrats that erode our rights more than the rogue actors. The Do-Gooders seem to convince people they are necessary and are the ones that are difficult to fire.

  4. Neil H. says:

Unbelievable. Apparently, US policy was: We tried them and executed them for crimes against humanity unless we discovered Nazis who could do something for us. In that case we forgave them.

  5. Brian Williams. says:

Only two groups of people make a habit of using force and coercion against ordinary citizens: criminals and government. A good rule of thumb is to trust neither criminals nor government.

  6. Erik says:

I would assume that GHW Bush needs this report to stay out of public circulation (family history and all). Once he’s gone many truths will be revealed.

  7. Virginia says:

This does not shock me. If they did that during WW2, imagine what they’re up to right now!

  8. Greg says:

This report is unbelievable, as is the fact that the government is still trying to suppress the facts.

As a retiree we are eliigble to remain on my former employer’s health care plan; that’s the good news. The bad news is that we pay a monthly premium of $1,200 per month. That’s more than our house payment was and consumes a third of our retirement income. Of course that is for 85% coverage, we also pick up the rest of that as well. I’m hoping my heart valve holds out long enough until I am Medicare age. If I need to have it replaced prior to that the deductibles and unpaid costs will pretty much sop up our remaining assets. For all the gnashing of teeth we heard about the horrors of the impending Obama health care initiative, I can’t say that I see anything in it for me one way or the other.
