I’m not surprised that Canadians are going to Detroit for care. I am surprised that Ontario is paying the bills.

Whether you believe health care spending is a drag on the economy or an economic stimulus probably depends upon who is paying the bill. If you’re paying the bill, it’s a drag on the economy of your household. If the government is paying the bill, it must be a stimulus – so says some advocates of universal coverage.

I prefer to think of health care as a necessary evil, like the government. But, mixing them is probably an unnecessary evil.
