E. Coli Outbreak. Did Environmentalists Cause It?

German Greens and their European Union acolytes have long fought scientific advances in food production and protection. After a spice manufacturer in Stuttgart employed the world’s first commercial food irradiation in 1957, West Germany banned the practice in 1959 and has since allowed few exceptions. So it’s no small scandal that the latest fatal E. coli outbreak has been linked to an organic German farm that shuns modern farming techniques.

    I’ve never really understood the fear of irradiated food (or of genetically modified food, for that matter), but clearly it has taken a firm hold of many people, with rather noticeable consequences.

    That is one thing people should remember when consuming organic vegetables. Organic means the fertilizer is cow manure — which can harbor pathogens. People should take care to wash all vegetables before they eat them – but they should pay special attention to organic vegetables.

    I agree with Devon. Most people don’t understand what “organic” growing means.

    Plus, organic foods are about twice as much as regular foods. So, technically you are paying more for your food poisoning.
