The Health Affairs article said that women spend more on medical care due to childbearing and longevity. Yet one of the Affordable Care Act reforms was to make it illegal for health insurers to charge women more based on higher utilization. In other words, not only do men die sooner, but they have to keep on paying for those who don’t!
Of course we spend more. We outlive men by a long stretch. The ratio of women to men at my aunt’s retirement home is nine to one.
I hope Obama is not backing off of the task of doing something about our exploding national debt.
Teenage boys spend more on auto collision repair than adults. But nobody is crying that they pay more for car insurance.
No comments on the debt commission? I haven’t read the paper yet, but my first impression is that we won’t make any meaningful changes until after the whole country falls apart.
