Eleven NHS trusts were put into “special measures” after an investigation found thousands of patients died needlessly because of poor care…
Inspectors visited 21 hospitals, run by 14 NHS trusts, which had the highest recent mortality rates in England. They found that some of the risks to patients were so severe that they were forced to step in immediately.
During the visits, decisions were taken urgently to close operating theatres, suspend unsafe “out of hours” services for critically ill patients, order changes to staffing levels and to force hospitals to tackle major backlogs of scans and X-rays that had gone unexamined…

More than doubling spending and the outcomes are this bad.
That is incredible, I hope congress comes to it’s senses and repeals ACA.
That will happen after Obama finishes his term, and people are going to suffer through it till then.
Can’t always be the same, but something similar may end up happening here.
It’s amazing the level of dysfunction going on that “they found that some of the risks to patients were so severe that they were forced to step in immediately.” I wonder what these patients would have to say about our looming health care overhaul.
They would probably say that we should repeal it immediately.

“13,000 excess deaths since 2005” That is inordinate amount of deaths for normal hospital care. ACA removes competition in the medical market, we are in for a world of hurt.
I don’t know if it removes competition, it just makes the competition a bit more difficult and medical practitioners have to do more.
The difference? If people are disincentives to compete there will be less competition. Also because of ACA people have to jump through an abnormal amount of hoops just to get healthcare.
They had to jump in immediately? They must have been failing at the fundamentals.
The ACA is a series of regulations on insurance companies and some tax credits.
The ACA does not create public hospitals in any way, nor is the ACA anything close to socialism. It is a great increase in regulation, but that is not socialism.
I do not know what does cause this indifference to suffering in English public hospitals.
Or what caused the neglect of the elderly during the huge heat wave in France in about 2005.
Doctors over there appear to be lazy civil servants.
“Lazy civil servants” Is there any other kind? Seriously, if you take away reward for personal effort, then lazy is always the result. ALWAYS. Medicine is headed that way slowly – just follow the cookbook and you’ll be able to stay employed.
