    I can believe the loneliness study. Think how many surviving spouses in older couples dies soon after the first spouse dies.

    The evolution finding is interesting in light of the fact that so many people don’t believe in evolution at all. Maybe if the nonbelievers were forced to climb Mt Everest with the Sherpas they would see the light.

    The idea that merely having a social relationship ups survival by 50% is amazing. However, I suspect there is more to the story than was mentioned. Being healthy enough to socialize is probably an indicator of health status.

    A few years ago there was a similar study that found people who attend church regularly outlive those who do not attend Sunday services. Later it was revealed that sick people are not able to attend church — therefore it wasn’t the church service that protected people.
