Drug violence in Mexico has claimed more than 25,000 lives since 2006. That’s about half the number of Americans killed in the entire Vietnam War.

    The medical profession often exhibits a “siege” mentality, where protecting every member of the profession from being maligned is seen as necessary to protect the profession itself. Physicians consider themselves a member of a tight knit fraternity. However, I believe the primary reason doctors tend to protect each other is because of malpractice litigation.

    Yet another reason to legalize drugs in the United States. We wouldn’t have all of these drug wars if profits weren’t so high. And the best way to lower prices is to introduce competition.

    Your elected representative could be drunk, addicted to drugs, or outright incompetent. How many of his colleagues would be willing to blow the whistle?

    Is it possible that the physicians are better at self-policing than most of the government organizations that propose to judge them?
