RAND: Electronic medical records have a limited effect on quality of care. “[Q]uality scores improved no faster at hospitals that had newly adopted a basic electronic health record than in hospitals that did not.”
I hate to say that I’m slightly pleased that electronic records aren’t the cure-all people say they are. Especially when all of these hospitals are crying out for federal money to their $2-$5 million systems.
The RAND study is very important. It completely undermines the idea that there is some easy, bureaucratic fix for the problem of quality.
Question: was the nurse any good as a nurse?
I agree with Paul. The RAND study is very important.
I’m surprised her ruse wasn’t discovered sooner after she gave herself an award from a made up, non-existent trade association. There is generally only one (well known) trade association for each medical profession within a state. Plus, award dinners usually have speakers, numerous attendees, banquet halls. It all sounds so implausible.
This nurse must have been pathetically bad for her employer to file a complaint against her rather than merely fire her.
