New ObamaCare Taxes

The newobamacareTax taxes on one customer’s bill added up to $23.14 a month, or $277.68 annually, according to Kaiser Health News. It boosted the monthly premium from $322.26 to $345.40 for that individual.

The new taxes and fees include a 2 percent levy on every health plan, which is expected to net about $8 billion for the government in 2014 and increase to $14.3 billion in 2018.

There’s also a $2 fee per policy that goes into a new medical-research trust fund called the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute.

Insurers pay a 3.5 percent user fee to sell medical plans on the HealthCare.gov website. (More)

The picture is politics in a frame.

Right, they don’t care about what they have to say, just that they get what they want.

        The ends justifies the means.

        • Dewaine says:

Of course, if you thought you were doing something that would help millions of people, but you needed to lie to them, wouldn’t you do it?

It’s like lying to a child for their benefit.

          • Sabal says:

The difference is that we aren’t children and we shouldn’t be treated that way. Children have no freedom. This country is based on the idea that people should be able to dictate the direction of their own lives.

            • Dewaine says:

Right. I agree that it is outrageous, I’m just saying that that is the though process. They think that they know better than us and they are in a position to impose their will.

What did people think would happen? Taxing insurance companies more is going to lead to higher premiums.

  3. Jimbino says:

Someone needs to lay out in black figures the screwjob on the young, single, childfree male that Obamacare represents. Once he drops out, we can work on the screwjob on his female counterpart.

Let’s take $300 as the monthly premium that the young man will pay. Because of the nibbling taxes, only some $285 is available to the insurer to cover losses. The loss-ratio will be about 80%, meaning that only $228 is available to be paid out for his healthcare. Since his premium subsidizes health care of young women, who use 87% more health care than a young man does, only 1/2.87 * $456 = $159 will be earmarked for his health care. Since he also subsidizes breeders and the elderly (who consume 6 times the health care per person), less than $100 of his $300 premium will actually be spent on his health care.

If he were to skip the Obamacare fiasco and pay his own healthcare expenses, however, he could get care in Brazil at half the cost,in Mexico at 1/3 the cost, and in Argentina at less than 1/4 the cost. Furthermore, in those countries, he can choose ANY doc and ANY hospital, while under Obamacare he has little choice.

The result for the young man is that he is paying $300 per month for health care that would cost him only $25 in Argentina.

    Death Spiral !!!

I’m sure these taxes will only get higher as time progresses.

  5. Grant says:

“Insurers pay a 3.5 percent user fee to sell medical plans on the HealthCare.gov website.”

That is absurd. The feds should be begging insurance companies to use that website.
