Just What ObamaCare Needs: Two More Bureaucrats in the C-Suite

Sylvia Burwell, freshly appointed U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services, has decided to create two more highly paid bureaucratic positions to run ObamaCare:

CMS is also recruiting two leaders to fill key roles:

  • A new, permanent Marketplace CEO, who will be the Chief Executive with responsibility and accountability for leading the federal marketplace, managing relationships with state marketplaces, and running the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO), which regulates health insurance at the federal level.  The Marketplace CEO will report to the CMS Administrator with a dotted line to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
  • A new, permanent Marketplace CTO who will report to the new Marketplace CEO and work closely with the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Office of Information Services within CMS in order to ensure proper alignment of project milestones and deliverables.

Because, as we all know, there’s been no chief executive or technological executive function in ObamaCare so far.

  1. That’s what we need more of… government positions filled with political appointees, who know nothing about what they’re expected to do.

  2. Nothing says government improvement more than adding more bureaucrats and high salaries to run the broken system.

    1. It really is all about who you know. Maybe they will make you the Chief Executive of [insert government bureaucracy here].

    1. Sign me up too Joe! No wonder the government operates in diseconomies of scale. Bureaucracies are so inefficient because of their hierarchy- managers managing other managers, all who do not produce a product or service, but simply “manage” those who do. And, they get paid the nice taxpayer-funded salaries and are totally unaccountable.

      1. Managing sure is tough work! But when everyone is managing everyone else, no one is manning the actual work that needs to be done and that is unmanageable.

    2. Welcome to government work, where everything is made up and the points don’t matter. But you get paid lots of money.

  4. Will there be any accountability at all with this new HHS Secretary? Sebilius presided over a horrendous kickoff to the exchanges, let’s see how the new Secretary does. My guess is, no better. That’s because Obamacare is the flaw, not JUST the people in charge of running it.

    1. I agree. However, Secretary Sebelius had been a career politician, whereas Secretary Burwell has not. Her responses to the continuing crisis of Obamnacare might be quite different.

    2. Well the people running it can’t run it very well either. ObamaCare is the flawed policy, but the failed rollout certainly doesn’t help matters.
