Here is a Matt Yglesias chart:
He adds:
I don’t think this chart showing that private sector employment has grown after the passage of the Affordable Care Act really proves much one way or another, but it certainly proves that private sector employment has grown after the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
Of course it’s costing us jobs. That’s a no brainer.
Answer: yes.
Anything that increases an employer’s labor costs or increases uncertainty will inhibit job growth. It’s not about politics. It’s about money.
Could be a correlation is causation fallacy.
I don’t necessarily think it is directly impacting jobs, especially since only a small portion of the bill of actually currently in effect. The bigger impact is probably the general implication of the bill, which, to me, is more state control and less opportunity for growth in the private sector.
Of course it’s costing jobs, the market instability is a huge problem; employers don’t yet know just how this will impact them and many are predicting adverse outcomes.
Virginia, people and markets plan ahead. It doesn’t matter if the law is currently in effect. The fact that it is going to be in effect will influence hiring decisions now.
