Considering the existing shortage, this is extremely disturbing. I know number of states are looking into loosening of restrictions on nurse practitioners, something that strikes me as probably a good idea– although I am not an industry expert. It will be interesting to see how the landscape of care changes as the costs of becoming an MD are starting to seem like they might outweigh the benefits.
The costs, loss of autonomy, reimbursements going down, hassles with regulations and paperwork (EHS)
yes, competition from non-MD providers. It’s beginning to be not worth it. Oh and the Maintenance of Certification and re-taking Board exams every 10 years, when they are advancing the scope of practice of Nurse Practitioners. Yeah, why be an MD?

Yeah, I do feel sorry for Orthopedic surgeons. They’re stuck in boring jobs that only pay $500,000 per year, on average. Most of the ones I’ve talked to think working as a $15 per hour tire changer at Sam’s Club would have been a better career choice.
I take these senseless surveys with a grain of salt. A stockbroker sitting on a pile of cash will tell you the same thing and a CEO would as well.
There’s something oddly prestigious to have an exclusive position and to loudly denounce how it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be.

I don’t recommend MD. NP or PA is better.
