Co-Chair of Obama’s Debt Commission Says “Seniors are the Greediest Generation”

Debt Commission Co-Chair, Alan Simpson: Seniors are the greediest generation. “I really believe that there are more patriots in America than selfish, selfish people.”

Obama promises to cut $100 million out of the budget. What does that mean? (Very funny video)

Study: People won’t choose doctors based on their performance: “Research conducted over the past 20 years in several countries provides little support for the belief that most patients behave in a consumerist fashion as far as their health is concerned.”

Electronic pickpocketing: “If I just get kind of close to (a person’s) back pocket or purse, where ever their wallet is, I can read their credit card numbers, expiration date, actually the whole tracking data.”

Let them eat cookies: Alberta health official refuses to answer questions about crowding and long waits for care because he was eating a cookie instead. (news article and video)

Seniors are greedy. What else is new?

  2. Vicki says:

Both videos are great. But the Obama $100 million is tops.

  3. Greg says:

What’s more important than a cookie to a Canadian health official? Certainly not your health. And this is the system the left want us to copy.

  4. Devon Herrick says:

If Alan Simpson things today’s seniors (i.e. the last of the Greatest Generation) are greedy, just wait until all us Baby Boomers retire.

  5. Brian Williams. says:

Canada is having problems with its health care system? I’m surprised.

  6. Lizzy says:

Devon makes a good point. I would argue that this current generation of “greedy” seniors has sacrificed more than any other. They were born into the Depression, came of age/fought in WWII, rebuilt the economy and lived long, responsible lives. Telling them now to suck it up and sacrifice some more is just morally wrong.

  7. Robert says:

“Although patients are clear that they want information to be made publicly available, they rarely search for it, often do not understand or trust it, and are unlikely to use it in a rational way to choose the best provider, they write.”

What information do they want compared to what was provided? I could not find that information in the links provided, but it is still not a market when the patient doesn’t pay the bill regardless of the information provided.

  8. Linda Gorman says:

Seniors are greedy? How does Alan Simpson know? Government forced the people who are now elderly were into the Social Security Ponzi scheme. Unless they are wealthy they have no choice but to get health care through Medicare.

Government prevented them from saving for their old age and forces them to buy lousy and expensive health care and Simpson presumes to call them greedy?

  9. Paul H. says:

Let me offer a defense of Alan Simpson. Most people 65 and up are getting far more in benefits than they ever paid in taxes. (Won’t be true for future generations,of course, but that is the way chain letters work.) Yes the government forceably took from them. But it gave them a higher return than they could have gotten on their own.

So yes, they are being selfish if they claim these benefits are theirs by right.

No one commented on identity theft? I’m a little shocked.
