Euthanasia Update. Insurance company denies woman coverage for a cancer drug; offers coverage for a lethal drug instead. [link] This is Oregon, of course. A New England Journal of Medicine study finds that legal euthanasia could cut health care costs by $627 million per year. Hat tip to Tyler Cowen at his blog.

You neglected to mention that the world’s fattest men still weighs close to 700 pounds, after losing 550 pounds.
He can’t walk, has to carted around in a bed, and instead of dancing with his bride at the wedding ceremony, held hands and swayed.
Here is what I would like to know: How does the world’s fattest man support himself? Financially, that is.

I like it better when you link back to earlier posts on the same topic. For example, on infidelity, didn’t you have an earlier post to a finding that among men this is all related to a gene or set of genes?
Note that is was the Oregon Health Plan, the state Medicaid program, that denied a therapeutic drug for treating cancer while offering to kill the poor woman off. National health plans always find, eventually, that it is cheaper to kill patients than to treat them.
As for ER beds in the hallways, the NHS has been doing that for decades. It doesn’t work too well. For starters, handwashing becomes a big problem without sinks.
Maybe the hospitals should start thinking about collecting in advance from people who don’t need emergency care. Paying $25 to get further care inworked for Kaiser in Northern California. A fee for further service is also helping at Denver Health, the main ER for downtown Denver.
And it really reduced visits for minor things in the RAND Health Insurance Experiment.
