4 to 7 Million Will Be Fined under ObamaCare’s Individual Mandate
From the Congressional Budget Office and the Joint Committee on Taxation:
CBO and JCT estimate that 23 million uninsured people in 2016 will qualify for one or more of those exemptions. Of the remaining 7 million uninsured people, CBO and JCT estimate that some will be granted exemptions from the penalty because of hardship or for other reasons.
All told, CBO and JCT estimate that about 4 million people will pay a penalty because they are uninsured in 2016 (a figure that includes uninsured dependents who have the penalty paid on their behalf). An estimated $4 billion will be collected from those who are uninsured in 2016, and, on average, an estimated $5 billion will be collected per year over the 2017–2024 period.
(CBO, Payments of Penalties for Being Uninsured Under the Affordable Care Act: 2014 Update)
“An estimated $4 billion will be collected from those who are uninsured in 2016, and, on average, an estimated $5 billion will be collected per year over the 2017–2024 period.”
ObamaCare has to get funding from somewhere. Why not profit off of people who do not want to get roped in to ObamaCare exchanges and the individual mandate.
Maybe this is how ObamaCare pays for itself. They will rely on a high number of individuals to pay the fine. Its basically free money.
Maybe I will convert to Amish, bet they don’t have to comply for religious reasons.
I’m not sure you can convert to Amish without moving to Ohio, trading in your car for a horse and buggy, buying a pair of overalls, growing a beard and forgoing all the modern conveniences the 21st Century has to offer.
Its hard work and sacrifice living in an Amish paradise.
I hope that in a few months we will not have to report on this blog that the IRS is auditing Amish communities to identify those who converted fraudulently, to avoid the Obamacare mandate!
Yeah – good luck collecting that $4 billion. Is the CBO and the Obama Administration living in a dreamworld!?
The scary part is they are making their dreamworld into a reality.
Especially at the expense of all its taxpayers. Everyone suffers for the actions of their “elected representatives.”
Nearly as many people will be fined as there are people enrolled. The same amount that are helped is the same amount being punished.
In this instance, isn’t ObamaCare just a wash? If its helping just as many as its hurting, no part of the population are more better off without hurting others.
That is pretty much any policy that is concerning healthcare. Yes some people will be helped by a new law or provision, but some people will be hurt as well. Everyone can’t be winners.
That is still no excuse of ObamaCare. Of course it was never going to be perfect, but the amount of lies and delays and extra costs make it dangerous for our nation.
Anyone remember how the president and solicitor general argued that this was a “fine”? Then, this payment magically became a “tax” according to John Roberts.
So now the Supreme Court has ruled that Americans can now be charged a tax for NOT buying a product! That ruling basically gave the government unlimited power to tax its citizens.
Is there a person alive who thinks the government is not big enough now?
